Terrey Hills Community Kindergarten has always played an important part of this special community.
Terrey Hills Community Kindergarten – A Brief History
THCK began when a local mum, Margret Hills, set up care for local children in the 1960's in her Terrey Hills backyard. It progressed to a mobile service in conjunction with the Kindergarten Union, which would park beside the Terrey Hills Community Centre. This was the early foundation, which lead to strong interest in setting up a Community Kindergarten in Terrey Hills.
The local community and families worked together to raise $8,000 towards the cost of Terrey Hills Kindy building which was built by Warringah Council.
On 10th July, 1971 the Terrey Hills Community Kindergarten building was officially opened by Frank Beckman. The efforts of the community to pull this together was amazing and representative of our very special community we still have today.
Terrey Hills Community Kindergarten held a 40-year reunion in 2011 which was attended by hundreds of families and community members from over the years. Again, it was reflective of the close connections our Kindy has had over the years, and still has today, with the community.
We at Terrey Hills Community Kindergarten thank the Garigal people of the Eora nation for letting us share their land.
